Installation of Office 2003 SP 1 unsuccessful

Checking Office Update I see I need to install Office 2003 SP1, and SP1 for
One Note 2003, Visio 2003, and Project 2003. When attempting this via
download and with fulfile I get "Installation Failed." Curiously, the Help >
About info in Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint says those application are
already SP1. I've tried Repairing Office and I've tried the other options
offered on the Update page. I was unable to find any problems in the Reg
keys. Is complete reinstallation an option? (Ugh!) Any other suggestions?

Thanks for the suggestion, Ben. I had tried that, but tried again with the
link you provided. Saved to disk, and ran. First application it attempted
to update was FrontPage, and after configuring and gathering data, it stopped
saying the application could not be updated. Could this problem be specific
to FrontPage? Appreciate your thoughts. John

Thanks, Mike. Yeah, I had read your experience and guess I'll do the
uninstall, regclean, reinstall. Sort'a like taking a sledge hammer to a
problem that should be fixed with a jeweler's tool. Asi es la vida....

I have found regclean.exe v.4.1a on the web, but see it is no longer
supported by Microsoft. Is the version you recommend? Is there a registry
cleaning tool support by MS?

I used Registry First Aid, v4.0 for the clean up. I'm not aware of any
registry cleaning tools support by MS.

Remembering the nightmares I had with 3rd party systems tools with previous
versions of Windows, I read comments in the WinXP group re reg cleaner
utilities. Overall, not good.

What specifically do you think Registry First Aid is finding and fixing to
correct the issue with the Office 2003 installation? Any thoughts on what
the real problem is with the failure to update?
