installation of office 2003 to external hard drive

setting up a SMALL portable office and need programs and data to an external
hard drive. the intall program wants to dump office 2003 to the main computer
instead of the external hard drive.

You have to install to an internal drive, You can custom install to an
external drive but it will still install a multitude of files to the
internal c windows drive, together with reg file entries, and you wont be
able to use the application on any other pc that you connect your external
to

If you want to be portable you install on a laptop

i am trying to install to a VERY small laptop that has no internal drive,
only a small memory card and no cd drive - there should be a way to install
to the drive of my choice and i don't want to buy an external cd to only
install this app - the only one i need.

So is this machine a Netbook? Specs?
Copy the CD to a flash drive and install from that?

the install won't let the install of office 2003 go anywhere except c drive
- yes trying to switch to netbook [aspire 1] and blackrmor 320GB encryptged
external hard drive and have all my work product with me and keep the land
locked, surfing, research machine as something i can reformat at needed. and
it is easier to secure the netbook since it is always with me.

the blackarmor happens to be encrypted and i'm not adverse to having stuff i
keep on it for MEO. working on several development projects and don't want to
learn any other tools until i'm finished so i'd like to have MY office and
all documents with so when i find the time to work on things i have what i
need.
the use of a computer is seldom a problem when away from my usual desk and
that means i'd like to be able to plug in my hard drive and work on my
projects via my software whenever possible.
i picture teh 6 machines i've been using on recent outings and can honestly
say i do not care to get familiar with corel after successfully avoiding it
for so many years!
