Installation of Office 2004 Student/Teacher Edition says completed successfully, but isn't on hard d

I've made many, many attempts to install Office 2004 Student and
Teacher Edition using Setup Assistant, and each time it says the
installation was successful, but the applications aren't on my hard
drive (where I chose for them to be located) and the programs won't
open. The progress bar never makes it across the screen before it tells
me the installation was successful.

I also tried dragging and dropping the files onto my hard drive, but
that method doesn't work either. Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Jason

Run the Office Removal tool from the Office CD and try again. You have some
dead bits stuck there (possibly in a User ID you cannot see) and the
installer thinks it has nothing to do ...

Cheers
