Installation of update

zman

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel
Email Client: pop

I downloaded the latest update (12.1.2) and it won't install because it says:

You cannot install Office 2008 12.1.2 Update on this volume. A version of the software required to install this update was not found on this volume.

Whats up with that?

It's up that this software is bloody messed up. I moved to the Mac to avoid
Microsoft, but due to exchange servers at work and hotmail (I subscribed
years before it became MS) I still have to stick with MS products (not to
mention that nearly everyone uses MS Word). Obviously it's the only sw
giving me hedaches.

Anyhow, I had the same problem. The simplest solution I've found has been to
uninstall MS Office after making a backup of the Microsoft folder in
documents, and reinstall it again from scratch.

Ciao,
Michele

yes, the installer did turn out to be a little buggy, but 2008 was the
first version to use the Apple Package Installer. This was a feature
that enterprise clients had been asking for for a long time as it
enables them to 'push out' pre-configured updates over the network
without having to physically visit each machine.

none of these types of problems showed up in the beta testing, so far as
I am aware, since only a very small percentage of users actually
encounter such a problem.

there were some improvements after the 12.01 & 12.1 updates, so MS must
be aware of the problem and working on it.

Lets see if the next update fixes it!

Installing Office does not delete the Microsoft User Data folder.

You do need to make sure you backup your Identity in the Microsoft User Data
folder BUT DO NOT use Time Machine to do this hourly.

Entourage and Time-Machine-like backup (creates chronological backup of
Identity can be used by both Tiger and Leopard allowing you to roll back to
previous dated backups.

Alternative method to use Entourage and Time Machine (does a once a day or
whatever time period you select) This quits Entourage and the Microsoft
Database daemon allowing for once a day backup into Time Machine.

Cheers and Welcome to Mac! I have a few tips and links posted to help new
users here:
