installation Office Ultimate 2007 fails on Vista Ultimate system

When installing Office Ultimate 2007 on my Windows Vista Ultimate system, I
get the following setup error message very soon after Setup is launched (and
prior to asking for entry of the key):

"Setup cannot continue because a required file is either corrupted or not
available. run Setup again from original source disc or download location."

I have already tried copying the CD to a system folder and running Setup
from that location. I have also tried running Setup in Windows XP
compatibility mode without success. My system has all updates installed for
Windows Vista Ultimate. I am able to install other programs on this system
from the same DVD/CD drive. And, Setup will launch from the CD on another
system, and gets to the screen that asks for the key entry, so I do not
believe the CD itself is bad.

Any ideas?

Do you have any previous versions of Office installed, or was Office 2007
Trial or something else previously installed? I'm just wondering if there's
something hanging on from a previous installation.

My initial thought was a problem in your Vista installation or
configuration, since you can install the DVD on another system...Any chance
you could try to repair your Windows installation?

Do you have administrative rights on the system? Have you tried installing
as administrator?

Check you temp directory & find the msinstall.log (it starts with ms......log)
for the name of the file(s); get the file from the machines with the good
install & add it to the directory of the uninstallable machine.

At least, that's how I "fixed" a similar problem trying to install on winxp
when the install couldn't find the file for "upgrade" (ridiculus as it was a
office ultimate 2007 file). The real problem is that the install setup is
buggy.

A trial version is installed.
I've already tried to repair windows. No problem was found.
I tried installing as adminstrator as well.
Perhaps it is that pesky trial version that is the problem.

No. The message is just as I wrote it. Not a very helpful error message, is
it?

No, it's not. Sorry, I don't have any better suggestions. I suspect
mezzodiva's onto something with the leftovers, though....

Just experienced this on a new ASUS system Vista Ultimate with a trial
version of Office System 2007 installed.

After removing the trial version I was unable to install my full
version of Office 2007 Enterprise 2007. Same error message as you state
here.

In my case, it was a service named "*InCD Helper*" (a part of *Nero 7
Essentials*) that caused the problem -

I stopped this service (and changed it to manual startup!), and I was
then able to start setup.exe without errors.

Check to see if your system has "Nero 7 Essentials" pre-installed, and
try to stop this service.

I just had exactly the same problem, also on a new ASUS system with
Vista Ultimate and stopping InCD Helper (in the services tab of task
manager) fixed it straight away.

Thanks very much for the help mailinator
