installation password is viewable

Installation and registration worked fine. However, when I open any of the Office 08 programs the initial screen says "This product is licensed to (my name)." The next line shows the password I created during installation; the next line shows the product ID.

How do I omit the showing of my password? Or, at least, how would I change that password? Why would the password be printed for all to see?

Hi,

The information displayed in the "splash" screen that you see when you
launch office applications comes from the information you entered in the
license section of the installation, but there is no need to provide a
password.

The only information you need to specify during the installation in the
license section is a) Your Name (required), b) Your company name (optional)
and c) Product Key (required).

As Alejandro indicated there is no need or even an opportunity to create any
kind of password when installing Office 2008 if it is a standalone (local)
installation.

Did you install from a network server rather than a retail package? If so
there is the possibility that the password requirement is something
established to confirm legitimate access. If that's the case you need to
contact your IS people to see if there's anything to be done - or concerned
about.

....One other thought - Do you actually mean your Admin password for your
Mac's administrator user account? If so, that's a different story. See John
McGhie's reply to a similar post on 2/11:

Issue with new Office 2008 displaying admin password at program launch

Yes, I mean my Admin password for my Mac admin user account is the one that appears on the 'splash page' when any and all of the Office applications open. I am the only Admin person on my mac, though there are 2 other accounts. You say 'there is no need or even an opportunity to create any kind of password' but I could not have proceeded past the popup requiring password to complete the office installation. How do I find the John McGhie's reply to the 2/11 post?

Sorry, I forgot to answer a question. I installed office 08 from the package received in mail from MSFT. I see in the package instructions " If you are not logged in as an administrator, you must know both the user name and password ... to install Iffice 2008.' I am logged in as the only Admin. FYI. Thanks for your help.

Easy:

I will repeat it for you here:

Delete these two files on one of the machines:

~:Library:preferences:Microsoft:Office 2008:Microsoft Office 2008
Settings.plist

where ~ is your home folder, and

HD:Applications:Microsoft Office 2008:Office:OfficePID.plist

When you start any Office app, you'll be asked to re-enter the CD Key and
all your user information.
