I'm afraid your post is far too vague. In order to offer meaningful
suggestions folks need to know *specifically* what type of Mac, what version
of OS X, how you're attempting to do what you're doing, etc. I realize most
of this info is obvious to *you*, but nobody here can see over your
shoulder:)

In general, make sure you do not have the MS Office 2004 Test Drive
installed - Use the Remove Office utility to get rid of it. If you need more
on how to do so, have a look here:

http://www.microsoft.com/mac/default.aspx?pid=office2004td

If you still can't get the installer to run, try the drag & drop method.

If your system won't read the disk at all the drive or the disk may be
dirty/faulty. Do other disks read properly? Can you try the install disk on
a different drive or another Mac?

Either the CD is dirty, or your drive is dirty.

Put in a different CD. If that works OK, then you need to clean your Office
CD.

Wipe the non-printed side with window-cleaner and a soft cloth and try
again.
