I had been using a fully licensed Office 2003 and using POP for my email
service. My company recently moved to an Exchange Hosting provider and that
provider provides Outlook 2007 as the client. They Exchange Hosting company
gave us an Outlook2007.exe file for us to either add or upgrade Outlook along
with a license key.
This file will not run on my machine (XP pro on a T60), but everyone else
has been able to upgrade. I get the following error message in a dialog box.
"
"Setup cannot continue because a required file is either corrupted or not
available. Run Setup again from the original source disc or download location"
I am assuming that the file they are referring to is actually unavailable as
everything seems to work fine. So what did I do to try to resolve this.
1. I downloaded the 2007 Trial for Outlook2007 and only installed Outlook
2007, which in the process also uninstalled my Outlook 2003 automatically.
2. I attempted to use the Key from my Exchange hosting provider, which did
not work, so I used the 60 day Key that came from the trial download.
3. I testing the 2007 Outlook Trial and everything worked great, so I then
uninstalled the 2007 Outlook Trial, so now effectively I had Office
Professional 2003 on my system minus any versions of Outlook 2003 or 2007.
4. Now, I went back and tried to install the Exchange Hosting companies
version of Outlook 2007 and again it didn't work and I got exactly the same
message. (note that for everyone else in my company this has worked)
5. So, now I went back and re-installed the trial version of Outlook 2007
and used the 60 day Key which is now ticking.
* What is keeping me from installing this Outlook2007.exe which everyone
else seems to be able to install?
* Is there a way I can just fix the licensing issue on my trial version of
Outlook 2007 that will resolve this also. Note, I have not and do not want
to install any other portions of Office 2007.
Thank you, any help here would be appreciated. Yes, the Exchange hosting
company punted on this.
