Installation Problem

Hello All

I am having dreadful trouble trying to get BCM installed. Installed Office
2007 OK on new Vista Business machine, WSUS on my server updated it to SP1,
then tried to install BCM. Install seemed to go fine, but when I started
Outlook, no sign of BCM.

Tried to go to trust center to enable BCM add-in, Outlook hangs and will not
let me do anything else. If I try to click anyway on the trust center or
anywhere in outlook it just beeps. I then need to use task manager to kill
outlook.

I have tried reinstalling BCM to no avail. Even with BCM uninstalled now, I
cannot use trust center - same symptoms as before.

I see mentioned in these newsgroups a suggestion that if Outlook SP1 is
installed, then it may cause issues with trying to install BCM. I cannot
seem to workout how to uninstall SP1, there is not that option in control
panel - programs.

Any other pointers?

Best Regards

Ashley

There's isn't a specific uninstall for BCM SP1, you can only remove
BCM entirely.

From your symptoms the problem may be a bad .NET installation, or a
bad Mail profile. One quick thing you can do is try creating a new
Mail profile, opening Outlook with the new profile, and see if that
makes a difference. If so, there's something wrong with your original
Mail profile.

Per chance did you uninstall another SQL program?

I could not get BCM to install. I would get a vague error message near the
end of the BCM install that stated that BCM could not be installed (REALLY??)
and referred me to a logfile that was useless - it actually stated at the end
that BCM had been installed successfully!!

As it turns out, the problem was that a previously installed SQL program
(ACT! V7.0) did not completely unistall (even though it was no longer in the
Control Panel Add/Remove Software list). Left over were Windows Installer
fragments, the ACT7 service, registry snap in SQL code, and the SQL Program
Files folders (which could not be deleted until the service was deleted).
Doing all of the above is not for the weak of heart (had to use several
removal tools & methods), but is did solve the problem and BCM installed just
fine.
