installation problems

i have a new G5 running 10.2.8. the computer came with an office x
test suite on it. i trashed most everything in it and installed a
standalone entourage. works great. love it. i've had it installed
for a week or so. today, i installed a new standalone copy of word x.
there was no "office test drive" to trash, as i'd already trashed it.
the installation went fine. after the installation was complete, i
ejected the cd, but when i tried to launch word, nothing happened. no
error message. no nothing. i can see it in my microsoft office x
folder. entourage is there too. when i double-click word, nothing
happens. when i select it and use the "open" command in the finder's
file menu, nothing happens. i tried shutting down and re-starting.
this had no effect whatsoever. i'm going to repair permissions next.

this is discouraging. brand-new computer. brand-new software.
something's not right. any help or advice would be appreciated.

sincerely,

kelly miller

Hi Kelly,

I can't tell you exactly what's wrong but I would guess that the test
version did not get completely removed. I suggest you do a complete
uninstall/reinstall as follows:

The Remove Office tool is located in the Value Pack folder on the Office X
CD. Install it and run it. Now reinstall Office X using the installer on
the CD or do a Drag & Drop to the Applications folder. Also don't forget to
install any Value Pack items you need. When you've finished, you'll need to
download (<http://www.microsoft.com/mac/download/>) and install the Office X
10.1.2, 10.1.4 (includes 10.1.3) and 10.1.5 updaters.

For the most trouble-free installation, run Disk Utility First Aid to repair
permissions before each updater install and when you've completed them all.
To repair permissions go to Macintosh HD/Applications/Utilities; open up
Disk Utility; select your hard disk and click the First Aid tab and then the
button to "Repair Disk Permissions".

Hope this helps.
