"Installation unsuccessful" when doing office updates. Why?

I'm trying to install Office 2003. After installation, when pulling in
updates, I get "installation unsuccessful" for the final 3 updates. What's
the solution?

How to troubleshoot failures updating your Office installation from the
Office Update Web site:

You might also try to download and install each of the updates individually
without using the Office Update automatic detection.
