Installed 2003 Pro. OEM over Office 2000 Pro. on second computer

F

Fast.DC5

I installed Office 2003 Professional OEM on my Dell laptop and then attempted
to upgrade my desktop from Office 2000 Professional and got an activation
error message. After further review, apparently I needed RETAIL version to
do this. At this point, when I open 2003 Applications it asks to activate
and I have 48 opens left until features are disabled. I have no problem
purchasing a retail version to finish this install...but how would this
process be done? Since I did an upgrade, Office 2000 was deleted. I'd assume
once I get the RETAIL version of 2003 Professional, pop it in, and select
active? Or am I going to need to uninstall Office 2003 Professional OEM and
reinsall Office 2003 Professional RETAIL

Suggestions?

Thank You

Had you read the EULA you'd have known that an OEM licence is forever tied to
the *FIRST* system it's installed on and *CANNOT* be transferred - i.e. it
lives and dies with the machine. Only a *retail* licence may be installed on
a desktop and a laptop. I guess that saving wasn't so much of a saving now,
huh?

You would to remove all traces of the OEM licence, and install the retail. If
you are purchasing an upgrade you will need the media of a qualifying product
(2000 qualifies) in order to complete the installation. You *CANNOT* use a
*retail* product key to activate an *OEM* licence. You *must* remove the OEM
licence first.

Hi,

Sounds like you used the wrong type of CD, but anyway, you should never
"upgrade" Microsoft Office. Always Uninstall then Re-Install.

I guess you're going to buy the retail anyway...
