Probably what you are seeing is Courier.fon, which is a display font only.
Word does not list these fonts because they cannot be used for printing. See
“WD97: Some Fonts Are Not Available in Word†at
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=163059. Alternatively, if Courier is a
printer-resident font (which it probably isn't if you're seeing it in the
Fonts folder), then you won't see it listed unless (a) you have the
appropriate printer selected and (b) you don't have "Show only TrueType
fonts in the programs on my computer" checked on the TrueType tab of Tools |
Folder Options in the Fonts folder. In any case, have you tried using
Courier New?

The Courier font does not list as an option in Word. It is installed in
C:\Windows\Fonts and does appear in the drop down list in Excel, but not in
Word. How do I get Courier to list in Word? - Larry
