The Courier font does not list as an option in Word. It is installed in C:\Windows\Fonts and does appear in the drop down list in Excel, but not in Word. How do I get Courier to list in Word? - Larry

Have you got a default printer driver installed?

Probably what you are seeing is Courier.fon, which is a display font only.
Word does not list these fonts because they cannot be used for printing. See
“WD97: Some Fonts Are Not Available in Word†at
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=163059. Alternatively, if Courier is a
printer-resident font (which it probably isn't if you're seeing it in the
Fonts folder), then you won't see it listed unless (a) you have the
appropriate printer selected and (b) you don't have "Show only TrueType
fonts in the programs on my computer" checked on the TrueType tab of Tools |
Folder Options in the Fonts folder. In any case, have you tried using
Courier New?

Try copying the Courier font to location such as your My Documents or
Desktop, the go back into the Fonts folder and delete the Courier font in
the Fonts folder. Close and re-enter the Font Folder, from the "File" menu
choose "install new font" and choose the location where it can be found.
Remember the font folder can be found in the Control Panel.

Hope this helps.

Thanks all. I am seeing COURE.FON in C:\windows\Fonts. However, installing a new printer that supports the courier font makes the font available in the drop down list. I think not having a print driver that supported courier was my main problem. I certainly now have some understanding of the interaction of Word, print drivers and fonts. Courier New was a possibility, but I am working with legacy macros on large documents. The extra vertical spacing in Courier New may have caused some problems so I am trying to stay with Courier if at all possible. - Larry
