Installed OneNote sp2 and now can not insert documents as images

Hello,

I installed sp2 for OneNote and now i can not insert word and powerpoint
presentations into my class notes. I really need this feature because I now
rely on annotating these documents with side notes for all of my college
classes. I have office 2003, and this feature was working perfect before the
installation of sp2. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Well, when I hit insert document as a picture first it pops up to "Please
wait while OneNote inserts an image of the document." After about 3-5
seconds another message pops up saying that "The document cannot be inserted.
To fix the problem try one of the following: *Make sure a Microsoft Office
program that can open the document is installed on your computer. *Open the
document by using an Office 2003 program, then convert the document to the
Office 2003 version of the program. *Change your installation of Office 2003
and install Microsoft Office Document Imaging. *If the document is password
protected, enter the correct password." I have updated all my Office 2003
applications their most up to date versions and service packs and the problem
still remains. Thanks again for your help.

I do have exactly the same problem. The only difference is that mine existed
way long before all these latest updates. And I was really counting on Ben M.
Schorr's help to have this problem fixed.....

Yes, I do have it Ben. You wouldn't imagine how many times I did that. Too
bad I cannot send you a screenshot.

I believe I have Office Document Imaging installed becuase the insert a
document as a picture was working fine before I updated. Is there a way that
I can check to make sure it is installed? Thanks.

I am having the same symptoms as Geoff. Since I installed SP2 of OneNote and
SP2 of Office 2003. It used to work just fine. Now it is broke. Does not
matter which tab, or which office app (excel or word). I have tried a Detect
and Repair in OneNote. Does not matter if it is a brand new Excel file or an
existing.

Well, it turns out that this is a known issue internally and MS is working
on it. Hopefully there will be a hotfix available shortly that will resolve
it.

Thanks for posting this problem. We were able to reproduce it at Microsoft.
You'll probably find two MDIMON.DLL's on your system in locations something
like:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\MODI\11.0\DRIVERS
C:\WINDOWS\system32

Here is a quick fix in order to unblock you: rename the files, reinstall
MODI, and you should be good to go. Please post here whether this works or
not for you.

Maybe I just dont know how to re-install MODI, but this did not fix the
problem. I renamed the two .dll's. Then Control Panel, Add/Remove programs,
Office 2003, Change, Add/install features, advanced, "not avail" for office
tools. Reboot. Do the steps again but make office tools "run all from my
computer". What did I miss?

I apologize for the terse directions. Here they are in more detail. After
renaming the files:
a. Click Start, click Control Panel, and then click Add or Remove Programs.
b. In the Currently installed programs list, click Microsoft Office 2003,
and then click Change.
c. Choose Next
d. Check “Choose advanced customization of applications†and click Next.
e. Click the down arrow on Microsoft Office Document Imaging and select Not
Available.
f. Choose Update.
g. When setup is complete repeat the process but choose “Run from My
Computer†in step e.

Again, please let us know if that doesn't do it.

I have tried those instructions, and can not make insert document as picture
work for office files.

After MANY uninstalls and reinstalls, I finally have the MODI printer, and
can do an insert. I do not know what I did different this last time. Sorry.
