Installer Configuration Errors

Running Win200 Pro with latest service packs. After a
systems crash after power / UPS failure, the system would
not boot. Then due to Microsoft error in repairing the
boot device, I was forced to reinstall the OS, as well as
all service packs and other programs (as administrator).
No issues were encountered except with office 2000
professional.

Now everytime I start Word, Excel, or Access the installer
applet starts up, states it is 'Preparing to Install' and
indicates that it gathering 'configuration information'
and then starts the selected application. This does not
occur with the PowerPoint or Outlook applications.

How can I stop this maddening behaviour?
