installer runs when word is opened

Working with an annoying problem on a client pc.
Every time Word is opened Windows Installer pops up "Preparing to install".
Only happens with Word and only with that user.
Running Windows XP Pro w/sp2
Office 2003 Professional

User has admin privleges. I can log in as another user and Word opens without a
hitch. Office 2003 was installed with this user logged on. All other office
apps work fine.
I ran repair from "add and remove programs" no joy. Uninstalled and reinstalled
Word, no joy. I opened Word, went to Help, "detect and repair" I checked both
boxes and it told me "Microsoft Office Profile Wizard" "This wizard cannot run
on Windows 95, 98 or ME." I talk with my client and she thought it might've
been upgraded from Win98 to XP Pro. I also suspect it may have had a previous
version of Word installed but its not now.
Any info would be appreciated. It's not a critical problem, she just gets
annoyed with the slow opening of work.

I didn't find ">cntl panel> word repair". I did reinstall but no joy. I brought
the PC into my shop so I could give it some more attention. I found that
"winword.exe was had compatability mode set to win 98/me. Unchecked that and
all is well. I wonder what else is set up like that....
Thanks for the reply.

I am having this problem on Win98 with Word 2000. When I try the suggested
command all that happens is that Word tries to open the document repair.doc.
I have tried both reinstalling and repairing Word and still the installer
runs every time I start Word.

Please, I really need some help on this! I have uninstalled and reinstalled
Office 2000 three times and STILL it runs the installer every time I try to
run Word.
