Installing already downloaded updates

J

Joco

The update icon on the task bar shows updates need installing, when clicking
on the install updates icon, I receive the message "The following updates
were not installed" Office 2003 Service Pack 3 (SP3) & Update for Outlook
Junk Email Filter 2003 (KB942571) and neither appear in add/remove programs.
Checking my automatic update settings shows automaticlly download and install
programs. I am not sure how to proceed, any help would be appreciated.
Thank you

You should be able to go to Microsoft Update
(http://www.update.microsoft.com) and get the updates you mentioned. I don't
know why they're showing up in your list but not actually being installed,
sorry.

Ah. Well, I don't really know where the downloaded files get downloaded to
before they start installing, but I'd look in my Temp folder and Temporary
Internet Files folder and see if I can find the files and run them manually
by double-clicking them.

I don't suppose rebooting resolves the issue and lets you download them
again?

Here's a whole bunch of info on troubleshooting Windows Updates, but wow!
that's a LOT of stuff to try.

Actually, I think I'd start here
http://support.microsoft.com/gp/assistsupport -- click Windows Update and
then move through the wizard to initiate an email support request.

Echo thanks for your email.

I eventually resolved the problem by uninstalling office 2003, reinstalling
it. The install updates icon was still there, and I did a custom install,
installing each update seperately, and rebooting after each update. A check
with the Microsoft website shows no further updates to install. Microsoft
Excel Help>about Microsoft Excel now shows SP3

Thanks again
