installing an upgrade on a new computer

I got an upgrade version of Office 97 based on an original purchase of Excel
5. Then I got an upgrade version of Office 2003. Now I want to put Office
2003 on my new computer. Do I have to first install the old Excel floppies,
then the Office 97 disk, then the Office 2003 disk? Is there a way to just
start with Office 97? If you purchase a series of upgrade versions and need
to reinstall the latest version, must first install all the way back from the
original software purchased?
