OK, here go I hope I don't leave anything out.
OS: MS XP SP3, Dell XPS Laptop & Outlook 6 (6.00.2900.5512)
1) I am deployed overseas and am forced to use local national internet
connections so this is what I want to do. I want to install a digital
certificate so I can send and receive encrypted e-mail. Not all e-mail needs
this security so I have decided to use Outlook Express for encrypted e-mail
and Outlook 2007 for normal e-mail.
2) I obtained a certificate from Comodo (MS sugested) using a HOTMAIL
address and I installed it according to instructions. (under Accounts,
Secuity, -signing certificate & encripting certificate) I left Alogrithm at
3DES. I have also double clicked on the certificate , outside of Outlook,
and installed it that way and again it states "The import was successfull.....
3) I went into Options, Security Secure Mail and ticked both Encrpt
contents & ticked Digitally sign all. Clicked apply then ok.
Here I thought all should be done. So I go to send a message and I get the
following "Outlook Express was unable to locate the digital IDs of the
following recipients" Meaning the e-mail address I was sending to. I am
given the option to "Don't Encrypt or Cancel"
I went back and checked "Tools, Options, Security, Digital IDs" NO Digital
IDs are shown. OK I import the ID again and get "The import was successful"
Go back and NO Certificate IDs are there.
What am I doing worng???? I don't usually ask for help but I have beaten
this dead horse to death and can't figure it out.... The error I am getting
is saying it can't find the digital ID of the person I am sending the e-mail
to.
Next I say OK I won't encrypt it I will just send the ID to the receipent
(my other e-mail account) and I get the error "The message could not be sent.
{next line} An err has occurred." If you need the digital ID before you can
send a signed/encrypted e-mail how are you supposed to send the ID.. HELP
Thank you all in advance for your help from an old IT guy...
