Installing Google Verification HTML

I am trying to install Google HTML code into my publisher website so it will
be verified by Google. When I open the source code, it opens in Note Pad.
If I add the HTML code, it will not Save. This is not something that I can
do in the "Insert HTML Code Fragment" feature, as it has to be in a certain
place. How do I insert this code into my website? I know Publisher is not a
HTML editor, but is there a way to do this?

DavidF, you are wonderful about making your "tutorials" in "Publisher for
Dummies" speak. Much appreciated. I DO try to find the info on previous
questions. I find answers to about 3 out of 4 questions and it has been
great...but I am stumped...again. *sigh* I know the answer must be in here
somewhere, maybe I have not asked the right question? =)

Thanks!

One of my infamous step by step tutorials:

Step 1. Don't bother trying to install the "Google Verification HTML" with a
Publisher built website.

The end.

You, David, crack me up. Either you are a very patient man or you are sitting
screaming that we are all idiots. Either way, thanks! LOL!

Sooo...I take it there is not a way to verify with them. Hmmm. Ok. (If there
is, I would assume you would let me know.)

On to my next challenge...

Thanks again! =)

I was being a bit flippant, but if you are talking about trying to get
Publisher code to be "standards compliant", then you will never get there.
As to Google verification code, I really have no idea what you are talking
about. If you want to provide a link to the google page that discusses this,
I will be happy to look at it.

Maria,

I took a moment to see if I could figure out what you were talking about,
and if I understood correctly, the Google verification is for ownership of
the site, yes? If so, there seemed to be a choice of creating a html file
with Notepad, and uploading that to the root directory as an alternative to
adding code to your home page. If that is what you were talking about, do
that instead. Then you won't have to manually edit the code every time you
update your website.

Hey David~
Yes, I was talking about the verification for ownership with Google. And as
I understand it, that is one of the things you can do to get your web site to
start to "naturally" get some rankings when searched (Hope I am saying that
right), and the first thing they have you do is verify the ownership.

I did try the file in the root directory, and that never worked. I even
tried to place in in different locations...no luck.

Oh well, I guess I will have to move on to other headaches! =)

You have been great and I appreciate you taking the time to research my
question and I apologize I format them poorly. Learning curve.

All the best,

Like many things, you may have to do as I do...read and reread directions
before you figure them out. But I will leave that to you. Somehow I suspect
that Google will find your site, and as per SEO...that is an open ended
topic.

Don't worry about formatting the questions. If you could format the question
better you probably wouldn't need to ask the question. I think it is a bit
like the current crop of Help sections, especially in MSFT programs. Unless
you know the key word to search for, it is hard to find the help material
you need. And if you knew the key word, then you probably wouldn't need the
help. I miss the days of the help contents being on my computer and
organized in a table of contents and an index. It made it so much easier
than the web centric help now available.

Good luck.
