In order to install MS Office 2003 you must have the minimum required
operating system installed.

The dos based versions of Windows are not acceptable you must have
Windows 2000 or Windows XP.

After you meet the requirement listed on the box panel you will have
much better luck in installing thr software.

Another idiot who can't read a box. Take a good look at that box - /read/
the system requirements - see Windows ME amongst the supported operating
systems? No? So what does that tell you?

Had you bothered to read the box in the shop, you wouldn't have wasted a not
insubstantial amount of cash. I know of no store that will take back opened
software - and especially not when the fault is entirely the purchaser's!

The error /tells/ you what you need to do - it didn't tell you to 'update
Windows' did it? It said that you need a "newer version". How on *earth* you
interpreted that as needing to /update/ I've really no idea.

You now have two choices:

You can:

a) Upgrade to Windows XP

or

b) Sell it.
