installing microsoft office

I was temporarily using the student version of office that i got from a
friend until my full version came in. I uninstalled that version the
only way I knew how (dragging it to the trash can and then empyting
the trash) and then restarted my mac. I installed the full version of
office for mac, but it thought that I was reinstalling the student
version, filling in the old product key for me...never giving me the
opportunity to fill in the new one. Is there a settings file or
something that I am missing when I delete the program? How do I get it
so that I can type in the correct product key. It would not be such a
big deal except my friend and I can not use the program at the same
time. Any help?
