installing microsoft project server 2007

Hi all,
I have installed trial version of microsoft project server 2007 on a
windows server 2003 virtual machine.
I have installed project 2007 on a separate machine and tried to
access project server but was getting error
as "Check the username and password".I had given the password and
username correctly, but still the error was there.
So i installed Active Directory on the project server machine and then
tried to access the server from project 2007.
I was able to establish the connection successfully.
So my question is should i install Active Directory to run MSPS in the
LAN environment.I am really stuck with this.
I request you all to help out of this situation.Please...

Thanks in advance.

Did you add your Project Server VM to the Domain ? If so, is this the same
Domain as your user ?

You don't need AD for a single server install, but you will have to generate
an alternative authentication method ie Forms or LDAP authentication.

It's no different for a VM as it is for any machine.

Set correct IP settings, recommend DHCP.

Right click "My Computer", select properties, computer name and enter the
appropriate domain name and reboot the VM.
