Installing MS Office after Erase-Install

R

Hi,

I did an Erase Install. I have my Office 2004 CD, but I don't have the
25 character Product Key. As I quit the Setup Assistant, a window came
up that said:

"Are you sure that you want to quit Setup Assistant? You can run
Setup Assistant at a later time by double-clicking the Office Setup
Assistant icon, which is located on the office 2004 CD."

I assume that means I can by-pass the Office Setup Assistant and get
right to the office programs. But I've tried double-clicking that
icon, and any other icon I can find, and they all lead back to the
request for the Product Key.

What can I do to access Office?

Thanks,

Rafael

Hi Rafael,

You will need to supply the product key. It should be on the CD cover that the product was supplied in.

The product key should have been in the clamshell Case Office 2004 came
in. If you've lost that, then your are Toast.

You can not complete install without the Key. Unless you contact MS and
provide some method of proof of Purchase at which time they might issue
you a key to get in.

IF they issue you a key save it in a safe Place and guard with your life.

This is MS version of anti-Piracy security on a Mac.

WE are fortunate that using this product key is all we have to do to
Activate Office.

Its my understanding That you have to go through all types of hoops and
almost have to leave your left kidney before you can activate the PC
version.

I have the key written down in a notebook , I also used a Dyno Label
Maker to create several labels with it and put on the actual paper
sleeve the CD is in and various other places. I have also done the same
on my Office 2008 package as well.

Hi Phillip:

Please: Allow me to update your understanding :)

On PC Versions of Office, the first time you start any program, it will ask
you if you wish to activate.

If you say "Yes" it will go online, do it all for you, and present you with
a message saying "You are now activated: do you wish to register?"

If you say "No" to registering, you're done.

It's one click, and takes about three seconds if your internet is up at the
time. Once you have activated, it will remember it unless you change the
hard disk :)

I say this basically to try to slow down the nonsense if Microsoft ever does
decide to implement Activation on the Mac.

Personally, I hope they do: It resulted in the price of Windows dropping to
less than a quarter of what it was, because a far greater proportion of
copies got "paid for" :). I would be very happy if the price of Mac Office
dropped to a quarter of what it is now :)

Cheers

That is quite a lot of difference from what PC People have told me their
experience was with with previous versions.

Best I can remember the procedure you outline is about identical with
what you do on a Mac. you type in the activation code and the code is
sent to MS. Then you are given the option of filling with serial Number
and such as well as personal information.

I prefer to complete the registration in case I have problems.

Thanks for the update.

The Mac version will never be as cheap as the PC version.Because they
don't lump sales of *all* versions together.
