Installing MS Project Server 2003 on PC

Hi All,

I am a Jr. Project Manager using MS Project for more than 2 years now.
I am interested to move into installing and configuring MS Project and work
as Administrator for MS Project. I want to get into the Technical arena. In
order to do that I want to install MS Project Server 2003 on my PC. Can I do
a practice installation on my PC?

I would appreciate if anybody can help me in this matter. I am curious
and ready to pursue my career in MS Project.

Thank you,
Swati Mair

Hi Swati,

I would suggest looking at using Microsoft Virtual PC 2004
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtualpc/default.mspx

Here's a link to a demo
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtualpc/evaluation/vpcdemo.html

It would definitely make it a lot easier for you to practice installing
and configuring PS 2003.

Good Luck

Hi Swati,

You can install it on your PC so long as you have Windows Server 2003
installed. Most people that want to use their PC for testing use Microsoft
Virtual PC or some other virtualization software. This will allow you to
play with the technology while it is not installed on your default Windows
configuration.

Hi Rolly,

Thanks for the response. I think Virtual PC 2004 is a good option. Is
there any way I can get a PC version of MS Project Server 2003 or do I have
to buy the full version with 5 CAL? Bcoz the full version is expensive for
testing purposes. Any suggestions?
