Installing Office 2003 Teacher Student Edition

C

confused in Oswego

My son is running Windows 2000 Professional, with no software and no Internet
connection.

I bought him Office 2003 Teacher Student Edition for Christmas. When he
starts the installation, he is told to download Service Pak 3.

From doing searches on the Microsoft site, it appears SP3 is for XP
computers. Is that right? Can he install Office 2003 on his machine without
downloading SP2?

There is a Service Pack 3 for Windows 2000. If your son doesn't have an
internet connection, and if he is in North America, he can order the
service pack on CD from
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/FX010383631033.aspx . He should also
order Service Pack 1a for Windows 2000 if he doesn't already have it,
because that must be installed before Service Pack 3 for Windows 2000
can be installed. Or you can download the service packs from the
Microsoft website and put them on a CD for your son... see

.. Windows 2000 with Service Pack 3 is the minimum operating system
requirement for Office 2003.

I went to that web site and ordered a CD, but it said "Office 2000 Service
Pack." I need Windows 2000 Service Pack 3. Will that be the same? I found a
Windows 2000 SP3 CD for $20. The Office one was free.
