installing office 2003

I can't install office 2003 on a new HP desktop computer. . A pop up comes up that says that my product key isn't correct. I checked with MS and the Product key is OK. I tried going online to get help, I was asked for the Product ID # which is listed on the "installed on my compter" list from the start menu. the PID must not be correct because I can't continue with the online help. Can someone help me?

How did you check with Microsoft about the Key? Why can't you continue with
online help?
