Installing Office 2003

If you are installing Office 2003 Pro, and you have Office XP Pro already
installed, is it best practice to remove Office XP Pro first, or can you
install over Office XP with no downsides?

Are there Outlook conflicts--does Outlook 2002 have to have .dbx files and
mail saved with special steps, or if you had Office XP Pro with Outlook 2002
and you got a stand alone Office 2003 (there will be no Outlook upgrades
availalbe) what would be appropriate to do to install the new Outlook 2003?
Have the same question for Outlook if it were part of an Office 2003
version.

Thanks much,

Chad Harris

Hi, Chad,

Office 2003 will remove Office XP as part of its installation, so you don't
need to take care of this ahead of time. Outlook 2003 retains the existing
Outlook information from your previous Outlook installation. It's not clear
from your message if you are referring to Outlook or Outlook Express because
you use the term .dbx.

I chose the upgrade option with Office 2k3 and it worked fine.

But, when I run office update, it tries to install Office XP SP1 which it
downloaded but didnt install. is there a cookie/flag somewhere I can reset
so it looks for Office 2k3 updates?
