Installing Office 2007 After Removing Word 2002

I have Word 2002 installed on my VISTA Home Basic machine with all patches
from Microsoft Update as well as Service pack 3 installed. I purchased
Office 2007 Professional.

My question is, how do I go about installing the new Office without running
into trouble?

I already figure that I will completely uninstall Word 2002 then use Check
Disk and Defrag then clear all temp folders and caches, but is there
anything else that I need to do to make the installation trouble free? Will
all the patches that Windows Update installed for Word 2002 conflict with
Office 2007, or are they removed along with Word 2002 when I uninstall it?

Thanks in advance.

I realized that there could be some confusion. I have Service Pack 3
installed for Word 2002 not VISTA as there is no such thing as Service Pack
3 for VISTA. I do have Service Pack 1 installed for VISTA.

Hi lambda

Personally I would keep W2002 and all it's patches etc intact on the machine. I run Office 2007
along side Office XP and have no problems. I had to uninstall Outlook from XP to use the Outlook 07,
but the rest of the suite is fine. The install setup should offer you the choice of whether to keep
or remove files from XP, Outlook being an exception, of course.

Anyway best of luck with your choice and be patient with the Ribbon ;).
