Installing Office 2007 on Laptop Using Same Product Key

Sarah

Hello,

About a year ago, I received a free copy of Office 2007 Professional at a
Microsoft launch event. It was a cd that contained a link to download the
software online. I downloaded the software online to my desktop.

Yesterday, I purchased a laptop and would like to install Office 2007 Pro on
that as well. Unfortunately, the link on the cd I received from the launch
event is no longer active.

I downloaded the trial version of Office 2007 Pro to my laptop and when the
time came to register, I put in the same product key that I used when I
downloaded to my desktop. I didn't get any errors saying it was an incorrect
product key, but the software still says Trial.

It's my understanding that I can put the software on my desktop and laptop,
but I'm not sure how to get this to work since I got the software in kind of
an unusual way.

Can I use it on both the desktop and laptop, or do I have to perform a
transfer from my desktop to my laptop since I don't even have the original
cd's so I can uninstall on the desktop and reinstall on the laptop.

Sorry for the length, and hope I'm not coming across confused.

TIA

The key you have was tied to the copy of the software you downloaded and
won't transfer.

Thanks,

Is there any way I can transfer the software from the desktop to the laptop?
As I said, I don't have the original cds.

Thanks.

Without the download or cds, you're out of luck.

Next time you know to burn the downloaded file to a CD for backup purposes. And since this was a free version, why the horrible news?

Greetings,
While this option is not for everyone if the cost of Office is out of reach
or not in the budget at this time for you, you may want to consider Open
Office. It is free. Once again it depends on what you are looking to do,
plus make sure you have the resources to run it but from my experience Open
Office seems to be much easier on resources than back in the day, of course
hardware prices have come down as well so that could come into play as well.
You can find out more information about open office at www.openoffice.org

I personally use OO and I like it, it does what I need it to do but as said
some people would rather have MS Office for different reasons so it is not
everyone. But I like it and I really like the price :). $0

I don't think it's inappropriate of me to expect the software I received,
though free, to be able to be used on both a desktop and a laptop. In any
case, if they're having the same launch events when the next version of
Office comes out, I'll know what to do.
