Installing Office 2007 Programs *after* downloading updates?

Hi,

Can anyone tell me if it is OK to install an Office 2007 application *after*
I have downloaded and installed updates for that application? Or would I
have to un install my current Office 2007 applications and then re install
them and then re download the updates for each program? I ask this because
Windows Update downloads and installs all updates for Office 2007 even if not
all of the applications on my 2007 disc are on my computer. What if I wanted
to install another app?

Anyone?

It is ok to add another program/component after applying updates. The goal
of the MSOCache folder under Office 2003/7 is to ensure that as a component
is added it is "up to date" with the last service pack and security fixes.

Neo,

Thanks for the help. One more question. Where is this MSOCache folder
located? Is there any chance it would be deleted or corrupted?

For a system with a single hard drive, it should be at the root of the "C"
drive (it is a hidden folder). For systems with multiple fixed hard drives,
it ends up on the drive that has the largest amount of free space.

It can become deleted/corrupted and when it happens, it makes life hell when
it comes time to patching, detect/repair, adding components, .etc.
Basically the Local Installation Source (aka. MSOCache or LIS) folder is a
cached copy of the CD + whatever updates have been applied.

Hi Michael,

To add a little to Neo's reply.

If you add an Office 2007 standalone app there may be additional updating/patching specific to that app, although the patch may say
it's an 'Office 2007' update. You can use the 'check for updates' choice on http://office.microsoft.com/ to run a scan after you've
installed and used the additional product.

As the Office 2007 \MSOCache folder is a hidden folder so you may not see it unless you have used Windows Explorer settings to turn
on viewing hidden folders. It's location for Office 2007 is on the same drive as the Office 2007 programs. (For Office 2003 its
location was to the drive that had more free space when installed).
