Installing Office 2007 using Citrix Installation Manager

T

Tim Mills

Does anybody know if it is possible to install using IM on Citrix Terminal
Servers, as the IM will only accept MSI invoked installs and as far as I can
make out Office 2007 does not allow/support this method, only for GPO
installs as there is a custom action which takes care of thistype of install.

Hi Tim,

For the downloadable MS Office 2007 public beta 2, installation for use under Terminal Services isn't available, although the MS
Office 2007 online test drive uses the Citrix thin client, so I'm guessing the two companies have worked together on Office 2007
installations although you may want to also post this on the Citrix forums at http://support.citrix.com :)

Generally, Office 2007 uses multiple .MSI packages for a single installation from a CD or an Office Network Installation point
(oNIP).

The process to deploy the multiple MSI files are managed by the Office 2007 setup.exe program and the setup.ini and config.xml
files. An oNIP is created by copying the CD of one or more Office2007 products to a single folder set on the Server. No special
setup switch is required to do this as it was in previous Office versions.
In case of the downloaded betas though, the CD image would need to be extracted from the download first to an oNIP.

If I recall correctly Citrix' Installation Manager allows you to build an ADF file that will allow you to call the Office 2007
Setup.exe, for example, to run the setup. The Office 2007 Resource Kit isn't in a 'done' state yet, but its information may be
helpful
