Installing Office 2008, when my computer has 2004 on it

Version: 2004 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) Processor: Intel HI,
I have Office 2004 currently installed and want to install Office 2008. COuld you please let me know the best way to do this?

I don't have the room to run both programs (and don't want to). Do I need to save my Entourage MUD data first? If so how do I do this? And then uninstall Office 2004 before then installing 2008?

Hope you can help. It's pretty frustrating at the moment as not being able to open the .docx word files is really annoying.

Cheers and thanks in advance.

If you haven't already obtained Office 2008, let's take your last question
first :) There is no reason why Office 2004 should not be able to open
files in the OXML format if you've kept it updated. Microsoft has provided a
free converter app which not only enables that but also allows Office 2004
apps to save newly created files in the OXML format. You don't get the
*features* of Office 2008, of course, so if you do want the newer features
of Office 2008 you do need to upgrade.

That brings up the second question: If you already have the Office 2008
software is it an *Upgrade* package or is it the *Full Version*? That makes
a difference as to what may need to be done before installing it.

I have purchased the full version of Office 2008, and would really appreciate your tips on how to install this. I don't need (or want) to keep Office 2004 running, as it would just clog up my system, with another program and my computer is running low on hard drive space.

See this page for help:

I suggest not removing Office 2004 until you have Office 2008 up and running. THEN delete using "Remove Office" .

Dos and Don'ts for a good install
