Installing Office 97 and Windows 98

Hello,

I recently rebuilt an older machine, reinstalling Windows 98 (not SE). I have a copy of Office 97 and was intending to reinstall that as well.

Oddly, the CD rom does not appear to recognize anything on the Office CD. Obviously, the auto run doesn't, but attempting to view the contents of the CD (via "my computer" or dos prompt) indicates that there is no CD (or one without any information).

It is curious. Would anyone have a suggestion as to how I would be able to install Office97?

Thanks alot,

Doug

It seems likely that either the CD ROM drive or the CD is damaged.

The Office CD works in another computer i.e. it goes into autorun...

After I posted my original question, I searched for updated drivers for my CD. I found one, and installed it. I reinserted the Office CD and it auto ran. However, when I begain to install MS Office, the install only got 1% when it stalled out. I canceled the install, restarted and tried again. The CD won't recognize the MSOffice CD...

I am tending to believe, as Eric Lawrence suggested, that the CD is messed up.

Thanks,

Doug
