My wife and I have separate user profiles on Me. (I come
from the Unix world, and expect Windows to act like Unix;
maybe that's part of my problem.) I install things every
once in a while, and they don't show up on her desktop,
which is fine, because all she uses is Word and IE.
Unfortunately, she bought Office XP 2002 and installed it.
It uninstalled the original version of Word, which makes
sense. However, my desktop is still looking for the
original Word, so now I can't use Word. Also, I briefly
tried running the new Word, and got some error about being
an unregistered user. I assume it's not against MS's
license for me to be using the same copy of Word as my
wife!
So, is it possible to fix things so we can both use Word
et al. without a reinstall? If not, when we reinstall, how
should we do it? And for the future, how should I install
programs that we'll both want to use. I suspect it has
something to do with putting things into the "All users"
profile directory, but I'm sure there must be more to it.
I'm particularly concerned about making sure Word's
security measures don't prevent me from using her software.
Thanks,
