Installing Office Professional 2007

I am trying to install Office Professional 2007 to a new computer (running
Vista). I keep running into problems. First the computer couldn't find the
..cab files for Excel and then it wasn't able to find the ones for PowerPoint.
I have the CD's, but the files are buried far enough that I can't seem to
select them. What am I doing wrong?

I previously installed the software on my old computer, which was running
XP, without any problem whatsoever.

This is a retail version cd/dvd?
CD's? the retail version, depending which exact version only has 2 cd's the
second contains BCM
You have uninstalled the Trial & Activation assistant then rebooted first?
Vista is updated with critical updates?
Your dvd/cs is clean?

This is a retail version with two 2 CDs. It is the "Academinic Use" version.
Could that make a difference?

Am I not able to load because this would be a 2nd install (even though I
won't be using the 1st install anymore)?

Yes, Vista has the critical updates.

The computer came with "Open Office.org 3.1." Does that have to be removed?

Thanks for answering!

Not usually

Retail EULA (including Academic, I know because that's what I have) usually
states "One primary device and one portable"

No - they will happily co-exist.

Gordon,

In your response you said "Retail EULA (including Academic, I know because
that's what I have) usually > states "One primary device and one portable."

Does that mean once I remove the softward from the old computer, I can then
load in on the new computer? If the answer is yes, it concerns me that if I
do that and it still won't load on the new computer, I am really in trouble
if I can't reload it on the old computer.

What do you advise?

There's nothing technically preventing you from installing on the new
computer, checking that it works, then uninstalling from the old.

smm,

Are you getting an error message? Could you post back the message that you
are getting?

Are you trying to install just Excel and/or PowerPoint from the CAB files? If
so, take it easy on that wall. If you keep banging it with your head, you'll
probably damage both. ;-)

Run SETUP from the CD (if it doesn't automatically run when you insert the CD).

Choose a CUSTOM install.

That'll let you install whichever programs and features you like (and exclude
those you don't want).
