Installing Office Services Packs Causes Errors

Ron

I am running windows 2000 and had installed Office 2000 Professional Several months back and all was working perfectly.
Then in Dec 03 I downloaded and installed Office and Outlook service packs. This proved to be a very bid mistake. The services installed without any problems, however upon rebooting my system I discovered the following.
1. Outlook would no longer run without error.
2. All of my office programs (word and excel) now give me the error message: "OLEAUT32.DLL is out of date. Programs still work after going through all the error messages associated with this problem.
In checking the updates there was a new OLEAUT32.DLL that was not installed. I have tried to install this and encounter a lock program because it is in use.
I need to know how to shut down all the Windows related programs so that I can go in an change this one file.
Can and will anyone help with this problem.

Thanks in advance.

Ron
