Installing Office X on Laptop

B

Bob Gir.

Man, why is it such a hassle to legally install Office on my new G4
laptop?

I am running Office v 10.1.5 on my desktop B&W G3.

(By way of background, I began several years ago with Office 2001 for
Mac, then purchased the upgrade to Office:Mac v.X)

To load Office on my laptop, I began by inserting the Office:Mac v. X
CD and followed instructions to drag the Office folder to my HD.

Continued to follow the instructions and input all the appropriate CD
Key and Produce ID info.

The installer then requested I search either for the old copy of M/S
Office to update or insert the original M/S Office CD,

When I inserted the original CD, I got the alert:

The upgrade cannot be verified. The folder that you selected does
not contain software that can be upgraded.

I be greatly beholden for advice on what to do now.

TIA,
Bob

When you say 'inserted the original CD', do you mean the original 2001CD, or
the upgrade vX CD? Also, was your vX a full retail version or an educational
bundle? Not sure that any of those would work. You may have to install vX
first, using the 2001 CD as verification if required, then install v2004
over the top of it.

Thanks so much for the input.

First, "Yes" to "do you mean the original 2001 CD" and also "Yes" to my
2001CD was indeed an educational bundle.

Since posting this, I've very carefully gone over each step in the
install process and found my mistake.

When the installer requested I search either for the old copy of M/S
Office to update or insert the original M/S Office CD, I inserted the
2001 CD and, stupidly, just clicked on the CD icon. When I went over it
a second time, it dawned on my that I had to choose the CD then navigate
to the M/S Office folder on that CD.

When I did so, everything worked just fine.

Thanks again,
bob

Great, glad you sorted it, and thanks for the feedback.
