Installing Office XP and 2003 on the same machine

B

BorisA

Hi
I am a lab technician in college computer lab. We have Office XP installed
on all machines. Now they asked me to install Office 2003 in new folder, they
want to have both versions of office installed. I started installing it on
the image pc, I created new folder, selected to perform Complete Install (so
all the features would run from pc), and also it asked me if I want to remove
any previous versions of Word Excel PowerPoint and Access, so I unchecked all
of them, since I dont want any of them removed. And its starts in the install
normally, but half way into the installation it stops, and does not continue.
Then I decided to try another way: I uninstalled all versions, and then I
installed office 2003 first and XP second, and it worked.
The problem is that tech support group told me that this is wrong. And there
might be problems, since Microsoft suggests to installed older versions
first. So I guess the question is if I can go ahead and image all the pcs?
thanks
Boris A.

Hi Boris,

Is Office supported from an Office Admin Point
(http://microsoft.com/office/ork/2003) or by
a CD image being provided on each PC or via a link
on a network or ???

The one app that can't be multiversioned is Outlook
and you'd generally want to have Outlook and the Word version
being used matched.

Did you try running any of the apps after your install?
The Office XP editions would likely be the active ones
and running the Office 2003 ones would likely look to do
a repair/reinstall.
