Installing Office XP Professional 2002

D

Dave Myles

I've recently had to do a complete recovery of my
operating system. I'm up to date on all Windows XP Home
editions and critical updates. Now I'm trying to install
Office XP Professional version 2002. It won't install.
I've had a message "install server not responding." I
checked the task manage during set up and saw that
STARTEAK.exe was running at 99%. At one time the the
system was just idling. Have I got too many updates in
place for the discs I purchased to install?

Hi Dave

Try running MSCONFIG as detailed below to stop this task from running when
Windows starts then try installing.

Windows XP
===============

1. Click Start, and then click Run.

2. Type "msconfig" (without the quotation marks) in the Open box, and
then click OK.

3. Click the General tab, and then click Selective Startup.

4. Under Selective Startup, click to clear the following check boxes :

Process System.ini file

Process Win.ini file

Load Startup Items

5. Click the Services tab, click to select the "Hide All Microsoft
Services" check box, and then click Disable All.

6. Click OK, and then click Restart to restart the computer.

NOTE: To restore the computer to use a normal startup, click "Normal
Startup - load all device drivers and services" on the General tab in the
System Configuration Utility, click OK, and then click Restart to restart
the computer.

Hope this helps!
