I am trying to reinstall Office XP Professional on my laptop because it
became necessary for me to restore my hard drive. My copy of Office
2000 is an "Upgrade" version because I have a copy of Office 97.
Unfortunately I am a long way way from home and will be for another two
months. While I did think to bring with me my Office XP disks, I
failed to bring my copy of Office 97, so I am not able to reinstall my
upgrade version of Office XP software.
I had previously registered my Office XP version with Microsoft on the
same computer that I am now trying to re-install it on. I understand
Microsoft retrieves some kind of a fingerprint from your computer when
you register Office with them. Since I am trying to reinstall it on my
same computer, is there some workaround that I can do to accomplish the
install? Or is there somebody at Microsoft I can call to help with
this? I assume Microsoft can determine that it is the same computer
that I had previously sucessfully registered it on. I keep getting a
message to provide my copy of Office 97, which I do not currently have
access to.
I don't want to have to buy a copy of the latest Microsoft Office
software. I know all this copy protection stuff helps the software
providers, but it sure causes problems for legitimate users. Any help
will be greatly appreciated.
