Installing Office XP to a 2nd computer

Can I install my Office XP software to a 2nd computer
without having to buy new software?

you can have it installed on one desktop and one laptop provided that you
are the only user of both and it is not an OEM copy...

How do you go about installing it on a second computer?
I tried and was only able to access it 45 times before it
shut down. I have it on my old computer which I do not
use any more and wish to uninstall it there and reinstall
it on my new computer. Therefore, it would only actually
be active on one computer in my case. Thank you for any
insight you may be able to offer.

Hi Jeannie,

If it's an OEM copy you cannot move it to a new computer,
the license is to the original computer. If it's a retail
edition you can use the telephone activation method to
speak to a MS technician to activate it.

Can I uninstall Office XP from my Gateway desktop PC and install it on a new
Dell laptop that I am buying? I will only use the software on one PC.
Thanks.

I forgot to mention that the Office XP Professional CD's that I ordered for
the Gateway desktop PC are Microsoft CD's with holograms and Product key. I
only wish to use the software on the new laptop. Thanks.

If the CDs that you ordered are from an OEM (Dell for example), they can
only be installed on the Dell system and no other.

They don't say Gateway on the discs. Just "For distribution with a new PC
only." That's OEM?

So this software somehow knows when it's installed on a non-Gateway PC (so
it won't run)? How does it know the PC's manufacturer?

Thanks.

Hi J.,

The OEM software doesn't know. You can install it,
the 'roadblock' will come when you try to activate
it on a 2nd computer either online or by telephone.

Hi J.,

When you choose the telephone activation method
and select a country it will display the number.

You wouldn't happen to know this phone number? Thanks >>
