Installing on a portable hard drive

Can I install Office Home and Student on an external hard drive? I know I
can't install on a flash drive but want the portabillity and safety of having
it on the external drive. Any help would be appreciated.

Not in the way you envisage
You wont get any portability or security since the installation of any major
application writes files to the windows drive and adds entries to the
registry - so if you plug said drive into another PC it aint going to work.
