Installing only Word 2008

R

Richard McCutcheon

I own both 2004 and 2008 Office. For the moment I only want to install Word
and PowerPoint 2008 -- I do not want to touch Entourage for at least the
next six months and do not use Excel. Will the installer allow me to just
install Word and PowerPoint without removing the 2004 version of each? And
will only installing these two programs affect anything else? Just checking
because I can't afford any major glitches in my work flow right now, but I
would like to access these programs and especially docx.

Thanks,
Rick

Could affect updating Office. Office 2008 installers have been extremely
finicky since they made the move to a package installer.

I would just install all and forget the ones you don't want to use. They
don't take up that much space.

FWIW, I agree with Diane, but I'd also suggest that if you follow that
recommendation & have been using Entourage 2004 that you NOT launch
Entourage 2008 - not even just out of curiosity - unless you intend to use
it instead of 2004. Doing so will cause the database to be updated & trying
to go back to 2004 will cause problems.

This is what I was thinking based on past experience of MS Office. I think
I was partly trying to take away temptation or accidental start up! But I
really do not want to mess with Entourage just now -- I have way too much
going-on on work email for the moment. But I'd really like to work with the
new Word.

Warning noted.

The old database should still be in Entourage 2004 Identity folder. The
upgraded Identity is placed in the Entourage 2008 Identity folder.

Except to check out something in Entourage 2004 for the transition, I really
see no sense in using both as it will be impossible to sync the two
databases.

Yeah - Sloppy wording on my part:>} but that's the point I was trying to
make. Thanks for clarifying.
