Installing Outlook 2003 so it works

Can someone please tell me how, in very plain terminology (idiot-proof, please) how to make Outlook 2003 work? My 2003 Word and Excel are fine, but my Comcast mail is just staying in Comcast instead of going into Outlook like it did with OE 2002. I have PopUpBegone and Norton Antivirus; if that is the culprit, please tell me how to get around it. I'm getting messages like "the connection to the MSExchange server is unavailable. Outlook must be online or connected to to complete this action." I need to start over, I guess, and I don't know how.
