Installing PowerPoint templates: Where?

Hello,

I need to deploy PowerPoint templates by using an installation program. How
can I find out where to store the new PowerPoint templates (pot files) so
that PowerPoint automatically finds them? I found the directory
"<ProgramFilesFolder>\Microsoft Office\Templates" which seems suitable, but
how can I find out - in a general way - where Office is installed, and which
directory is the template directory? I need this information for Office
2000, 2002 (XP) and 2003. Can I somehow make a difference whether the
templates are installed for "All users" or only for the user currently
logged in?

Martin - I have been trying all morning to install templates that are being
requested when I try to create a slide from the Auto Content Wizard. When I
open the Company Meeting I get:

"Can't display the template used in this doc. This feature is not currently
installed. Would you like to install it now?"

Yes

"Installing Template" - won't complete

"The feature you are tyring to use is on a CD-Rom or other removable disk
that is not available. Insert Microsoft Office XP disk and click OK"

"The past cannot be found tryt to find STEDU.MSI in a folder."

I tried all three of my disks. I found STEDU.MSI (which was requested) but
it still wouldn't install.

I am soooo frustrated. I am taking an online Microsoft PowerPoint class and
I have wasted several days on this problem.

Did you ever find a solution???

Try this:

1. Close PowerPoint
2. Insert your Office XP CD in the drive
3. Run setup.exe
4. Select Add or Remove Features
5. Click Next
6. In the listing that displays, locate Microsoft PowerPoint for Windows and
expand the list by clicking on the + sign.
7. Locate Content Templates and expand it.
8. Click on the icon to the left of Typical and Additional and make sure that
each is set to "Run from my computer"
9. This is a good time to do the same for Design Templates.
10. Click on Update and follow any dialog to completion.

Now open PowerPoint and see whether the Company Meeting works for you.

It sounds like you may have the "Students and Educators Edition" of Office, but
I would expect the dialogs to be the same. If they aren't and you have
difficulty, come back here and give use the details of the problem you
encounter.
