Installing Pub 2000 and Pub 2003 on same PC

Joann or Brian -- Could you please walk through the SPECIFIC steps to install
Pub 2000 and Pub 2003 side by side, so one does not overwrite the other? I
saw previous post by Joann about how she and Brian both run multiple versions
on their PCs without problems. But we ran into problems following the general
advice given.

Our club purchased freestanding versions of Pub 2003 and Pub 2000 for its
newsletter editor, who needs both for various reasons. Pub 2003 was installed
after Office 2003 was installed. Editor next tried to install Pub 2000. The
editor's explanation of problems encountered during the install appears
below. He would prefer I provide procedures rather than help him directly
with the install.

Tom,
Microsoft installed Pub2000 on top of my software. I was able to re-install
my copy of Pub2002. I am going to try to install Pub2000 to my D drive this
weekend.

Tom,

I always recommend installing the newest version first. Install Publisher
2003 to the default directory that is offered by the Publisher 2003 setup
routine.

When installing older versions, such as Publisher 2000, choose a custom path
to install this version too. You can choose the folder location during
setup.

For example, Publisher 2003 would install to the Office 11 folder. For
Publisher 2000, I would create a custom folder called Publisher 2000 to
install to.

I also recommend installing Publisher 2003 then updating it with the latest
service pack, SP2 before installing Publisher 2000.

The only problem you might encounter with the above scenario is that
Publisher 2000 will probably take over as the "default" version of
Publisher...meaning anytime you try to open ANY Publisher files, including
2003, Publisher 2000 will try to open them, giving you an error that Pub
2000 can't open newer files. When this happens, you open Publisher 2003, go
to Help > Detect and Repair, and that will make Publisher 2003 the default
version.

When I do installs, I install in the following order on my machines:

1. Pub 2003
2. Pub 2002
3. Pub 2000
4. Pub 98
5. Pub 97
6. Pub 95
7. Pub 2.0
8. Pub 1.0a

When install in that order, I don't have issues.

I don't have standalone software only Office 2000 and Office 2003. Due to
the problems I am having in trying to work with my web site in Pub 2003 I
want to go back to Pub 2000. Is it possible to just re-install Publisher
2000 from with Office 2000 - or do I have to just go back completely to
Office 2000?

Simply reinstall Office 2000 CD2 - this is the one with Publisher on it.

A custom install will let you pick and choose what you install.
