Installing Sample Project Database

T

Tom Lee

I am having a problem installing the sample database that comes with Project
Server. My system is a single standalone SharePoint Server with Project
Server. It is not a DC. When installing Project, I get a warning msg
stating that the system needs to be on SP3. When I manual copy the files
(per enclosed instructions) manualy, I am unable to run the config utility.
I get the following msg.:
"Pre-Validation Error
Microsoft SQL Server 2000 with SP3 must be installed before configuring the
sample database."
Per instructions, they state SP3 or greater. I have SP4 installed.
Thanks,
Tom Lee

Tom:

Is SQL on the same box? If not, the sample database install won't work.
Anecdotally, folks have reported issues installing with SQL SP4, but we
can't say for certain that this is a problem at this time.

SQL is loaded on the same box. I have SharePoint services (WSS) running on
this box using SQL. After installing and having it run several weeks, I have
installed Project Server on this box. Project "seems" to work fine, but I
cannot install the sample database.

Had the same problem earlier on an earlier install.

Thanks,
Tom

Tom:

If you've got a copy of a sample database backup, it's easier to restore it
and use the Edit Site tool to do the rest. Of course, the sample accounts
don't get created for you, but it's cleaner and faster. Just a thought.

That is what I ended up doing. Problem with that is that I get the
"validation" error. Once I get that error - which is the first thing that
happens -- I cannot do anything else.

Thanks.

Tom:

You need to dig into the database and change the references to machine names
etc. I'm not completely certain what you mean by "the validation error."

Run the config utility, it waits a while and then give a msg with a header of
"Validation Error". The text in the box says you must have SP3 installed.

Hope that makes sense.

Thanks,
Tom

Tom:

"Run the config utility" does this have an official project name? Are your
talking about the sample database installation routine or something else?
