Installing Solver.xla in all computers by default

R

Radha Krishna

Hi, I wrote a macro which uses Solver.xla. Now this program is designed to be
used by a number of users. It happens so that by default solver.xla is not in
the addins folder. It is not even in the library folder too (in most
computers) from my experience. One may need Office CD to install Solver!!

I am currently writing code in the macro to install solver by itself, but if
the solver.xla file is unavailable in any folder then there is no way that
solver can be installed.

How can I solve this problem?? any help will be greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
Radhakrishna

You can't. If you want a solution involving downloading it off the
'Net, even if you find one it would be illegal. You can get premimum
(i.e., priced) versions of Solver from www.solver.com.

But, to me, the bottom line is that if the necessary software is not
available on a client computer, it's not. It's up to the owner /
manager of the computer to have the appropriate software. Of course, I
am surprised that Solver is not available in an academic environment
considering how widely it is used. Talk with your school/department's
IT manager (or have a professor talk with her/him).
