Installing standalone Version of Project Server 2007

Hi All

I have a couple of questions. I am trying to install/setup a standalone
version of Project Server 2007 on Windows 2003 Server (R2 / SP1):

I understand I need to install the a) .Net Framework 3.0, b) SharePoint
Services 3.0 and c) IIS 6.0, before installing Project Server 2007.

1. I have installed .Net but it appears I have all 3 versions (v1, v2, and
v3). When I go to install SharePoint Services 3.0 its notifies me I need to
allow this in IIS 6.0. However, I cannot see .Net v3 in the services list.
I only have version 2.0.50727. Question: I've viewed the properties of this
and found the location for version 2.0.50727 dll but cannot find the .Net
version 3.0 dll to add to the service. Also, when I try to uninstall .Net v2
it notifies me that other services are running and I cannot uninstall.
Basically, how do I make .Net v3 my default framework engine and point this
to IIS 6.0?

2. When I've fixed Point 1 (configured the basic setup and installed
SharePoint Servers 3.0), do I need a copy of SQL Server installed prior to
the install of SharePoint Server 2007?

I've been on the MS website and others and could not find the answer - I
think its snow blindness (or stupidity).

Any help you can provide would be gratefully appreciated.

Thanks in advance to those who reply.

Hi Hardip,

It is ASP.NET 2.0 that needs configuring, check out the PS2007 deployment
guide for information.

Re SharePoint, be aware of the differences between SharePoint Services and
SharePoint Server. SharePoint Server is NOT required. SharePoint Services
will be installed as part of the Project Server install, so you don't need to
pre-install it.

Re SQL server, yes you should install this before Project Server.

Check this site for deployment guides.

Hi Ben

Thanks for the quick response. I configured the connection between .net and
IIS just using version 2x and IIS 6.0. Found an article that said it didn't
really matter. I also installed and tested SharePoint Services 3.0 and
installed the SP1. So its all ready for SQL Server 2005 and Project Server
2007!!

I didn't realise that it installs SharePoint Services 3.0 as part of the
Project Server install - that's one step I could have avoided but its all
good.

Just a Quick Question (famous last words): If I install Project Server in
standalone mode I understand it will also install SQL Express. As I don't
want to do this, what would be the recommended mode to install - Server Farm
and then allow the installation to Find the SQL / SharePoint Services
instances?

Hardip:

Select the advanced button and choose a small farm installation. You can put
SQL Server on the same box for eval purposes and things should run fine.
Some configurations like this require a minor tweak as noted in the
following FAQ:
